What is Stunt Driving?
You don’t need to be racing another vehicle to be charged with stunt driving. This offence can also apply to performing dangerous maneuvers, such as squealing tires or making extreme driving moves.
Stunt driving laws aim to keep roads safe by imposing strict penalties on risky behavior behind the wheel.
Immediate Consequences
If a police officer issues a stunt driving ticket, you will face:
- 30-day roadside licence suspension
- Vehicle impoundment for 14 days, at your own expense
Penalties Upon Conviction
Penalties increase with repeated offences:
- 1st offence: Licence suspension of 1–3 years
- 2nd offence: Licence suspension of 3–10 years
- 3rd offence: Lifetime suspension (may be reduced later by regulation)
- 4th offence: Lifetime suspension
Insurance Impact
Even a single stunt driving conviction can drastically increase insurance premiums, sometimes by thousands of dollars per year. Some insurers may refuse coverage entirely after a stunt driving conviction.
